Straight talk about going green
“At 5 years old, Brooke Madden should have been spending her days learning the
alphabet, jumping rope and playing tag on the playground. Instead the kindergartner
spent most of her time being sick. Severe allergies to pollen sent the family to the
emergency room on a weekly basis as the little girl gasped for air. Steroid treatments
bloated her little body and she missed countless days of school.
In researching how to help their daughter the Maddens learned about green building
techniques that that improved indoor air quality through sealing air spaces and filtering
the fresh air that comes into the house. Since moving into their new house, the Maddens
haven't been to the emergency room once, and she doesn’t have to do breathing
treatments anymore. ‘She’s totally fine’ says her mother. ‘She’s not missing school
because of her breathing. She hasn’t seen an asthma doctor at all. It’s a huge 180-
degree change. We love our house obviously!’”

“What I love is that my energy bills are like $20 a month and the others in my
neighborhood, their bill is $200 or $300 a month.”

“Building Green meant more to us than just saving money on our utility bills, that’s not to say that we don’t enjoy lower bills! But building a Green Build house meant that we were making the world a little better for our grandkids and their kids and grandkids. It was just nice to know that we did what we could do to help.”
