A First in Nebraska!

The Nebraska Green Build Program is a marketing and professional development initiative of the Nebraska State Home Builders Association, in partnership with the Nebraska Energy Office. The program is intended to foster the development of green building practices in the residential construction industry and market the benefits of owning a “Nebraska Certified Green Built Home” to the home-buying public.

Become a Certified Green Builder

Becoming a Nebraska Certified Green BuilderSM is a four-step process overseen by the Nebraska Green Building Council.

  1. The builder successfully completes a one day seminar on Green Building standards and practices. To register for the class call 800-726-5929.
  2. The prospective builder member must be able to demonstrate that he/she can build a home that is equivalent to a four star Energy Star home or a HERS rated home that scores 100 or above.
  3. Upon completing the green building class, the builder may submit an application to become a Nebraska Certified Green BuilderSM as either a builder member or as an associate member. The applicant agrees to certain minimum requirements concerning contracts, construction performance practices and customer service. These requirements are explained in the green building class. A $400 initiation fee for builders or a $200 initiation fee for associate members must accompany the application.
  4. The applicant is then subject to a peer review concerning their professional business practices. Upon approval by the peer review committee they are accepted as a Nebraska Certified Green BuilderSM.

Once accepted, members must earn the NAHB professional certification for a “Certified Green Professional” commonly referred to as CGP in the first term (three years) of their membership.
